Good Academic Standing

A student is in “Good Academic Standing” when they possess a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher (≥2.0). Any student with cumulative GPA below 2.0 is ineligible to receive a post-secondary credential or graduate from Genesee Community College.

学生s are considered to be in Good Academic Standing during the first eleven (11) credit hours for which they are registered at the College, regardless of GPA.

Effective the term in which a student registers for their twelfth credit hour, the following standard is applied to maintain Good Academic Standing: 学生s attempting a cumulative total of twelve (12) credit hours or more must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of ≥2.0 to be in Good Academic Standing.

学生s with a cumulative GPA of ≥2.0, but a term GPA of less than 2.0, will be sent a letter reminding them that they must maintain a cumulative GPA of ≥2.0 to remain in Good Academic Standing and for graduation eligibility.

Academic 警告, 缓刑, and 限制

学生s not in good academic standing will be placed on academic warning, 缓刑, or restriction according to the following guidelines:

  • 学生 may register for ≤14 credit hours
  • Hold placed on registration until student meets with an academic advisor or success coach
  • 学生 must agree to, sign, and adhere to an academic progress plan
限制 Failure to achieve a term GPA ≥2.0 while on Academic 缓刑
  • 学生 may register for ≤7 credit hours
  • Hold placed on registration until student meets with an academic advisor or success coach
  • 学生 must agree to, sign, and adhere to an academic progress plan

If a student feels that extenuating circumstances have affected their academic performance, resulting in their not being in Good Academic Standing, they may appeal their status in writing to the Academic Standards Committee of the Academic Senate
